Plitvicer Seen
The area of the Plitvice lakes is a valley kettle that lies massively between the Mala Kapela and the Pljesevica Mountains. 16 lakes with crystal clear water are gradually lined up.
UNESCO World Heritage Site ...
The 16 Plitvice lakes form the fertile center of the beech, fir and spruce forests, which thrive on the slopes of the mountains up to 1,200 meters high. The extraordinary beauty of this landscape, the diverse flora and fauna, contrasts of the colors, which are reflected in the sunlight, and last but not least the refreshing height of tourists are always inspired. Romantic rowing routes and attractive hiking tours attract almost a million visitors every year.
On some designated areas ...
Agriculture and huts may be built, but only according to strict ecological guidelines and without intervening in the natural process of the forest. The park is also a bird sanctuary. This is why there are rare bird species that have long since lost their traditional breeding sites in other regions of the world. But also wolves, deer, wild boars, wild cats and even bears are not uncommon here. The lakes are an ideal place to linger a day or two on the trip to the southern regions of Croatia. Certainly, however, you can also spend a whole week here: with cave hikes at Rakovica, riding through the forests of Jelov Klanac or fly fishing on the Gacka river.
