Region Florence

Center of the Renaissance ...
Florence, the city in the Arnotal, is rightly considered one of the great Italian art and cultural cities. With Michelangelo, Giotto, Brunelleschi, Donatello, Botticelli and Galileo, some of the most famous Italians left traces in the city, which was the center of the intellectual life of the West, especially from the Middle Ages to the modern period. In the Middle Ages, Florence experienced his heyday in the Renaissance under the rule of Medici and contributed to the development of humanism and capitalism. Famous Italians such as Michaelangelo left their traces in the cultural city of Florence. In the 15th and 16th centuries, the rich merchant family of the Medici ruled in Florence. They promoted art and science and made Florence the center of Renaissance and humanism. Many buildings in the old town show the outstanding architectural achievements of that time.

Surrounded by history ...
When you visit Florence, you will walk through living history. The center of the old town is the Piazza della Signoria, the most important place in the city. The unique ponte Vecchio, a bridge from 1345, is built with many small shops. In addition to impressive church buildings, such as the Santa Maria del Fiore cathedral, the city houses many palaces from the Middle Ages and Renaissance. Under no circumstances should you miss to visit the Uffizi. Once created as an administration building, one of the world's most important museums for classical art is now located. The city is sober today. From the outside, the palaces seem rather simple and rugged. Inside, they are all the more magnificent. The astonishing abundance of art treasures, the significant story, the numerous cultural festivals and events and the attractive surroundings make Florence an extremely popular tourist destination. 6.5 million tourists per year treat themselves to a visit to Florence.
