Sellin Ostseebad

In addition to Binz and Göhren, Sellin is one of the most important seaside resorts on the island. Sellin has two beaches. On the one hand, the main beach on the pier and on the other hand the south beach, which connects to Baabe's beach without anywhere.

Vacation on the Baltic Sea resort of Sellin

To the place and the region ...
The Baltic Sea resort of Sellin in the southeast of the island is one of the most important seaside resorts in Rügen alongside Binz and Göhren. The place is located east of the Granitz, a spacious forest area on the coast, and is therefore at the beginning of the connecting piece to the Mönchgut peninsula. The Mönchgut peninsula belongs to the Southeast Rügen Biosphere Reserve and partly to the Mönchgut nature reserve. Several land tongues and bays offer plenty of space to relax.

To the history ...
For the first time in 1295, the village has quickly developed into an elegant seaside resort since 1880. In 1912 the Evangelical Church of the Grace and the Catholic Church ""Maria Meeresstern"" were inaugurated. Today's “Cliff-Hotel” was created above the seaside resort, which was originally intended as a recreation home for the SED squad. Large parts of the village have been renovated since 1990 and the pier in 1992 was rebuilt. In the southeastern part of the village, holiday apartments were created in a specially created construction area.

Bathing opportunities

Baden and leisure
The Baltic Sea resort of Sellin has two beaches. On the one hand, the main beach on the pier and on the other hand the south beach, which connects to Baabe's beach without anywhere. From July to September it is not permitted to walk dogs on the beach. The beach is white and fine sand, the water quality is very good. On the south beach there is a volleyball field, a water slide and the opportunities to rend the pedal boats and ride a banana boat. Protection by lifeguards is provided on both beaches. The main magistral “Wilhelmstraße” is worth a visit to look at houses from the early days of the bath architecture. The end of the street is the 30 m high cliff. From here you can get to the pier or the beach promenade by staircase or elevator. Other sights in Sellin are the Hartwich gallery, the amber museum including the associated workshop and the Mercy Church. A well -developed network of hiking leads walkers and hikers through the Granitz, which leads to the Granitz hunting lock for children with a nature trail. You can borrow rowing boats on the Selliner See. With a small ferry, they are transferred to the port of Baabe or to Moritzdorf, a small fishing village directly at the Mönchgut nature reserve. It is thanks to this fact that Moritzdorf is completely car -free. The thatched roofs of the small houses directly on the Selliner See make the gem.

Cultural Opportunities

In July the pier on the main beach takes place with many attractions for children and musical events. The restaurateurs of the place ensure the culinary joys. August offers the pirate festival for young and old on the main beach and in September you can go to the Baltic Sea hob in Seedorf. Guided hikes through the Granitz take place all year round, or you join one of the many Nordic walking groups that enjoy the fresh air. And even in winter it never gets boring. The ice rink ""Ice Age"" opens its gates and offers a ice ranks, Ice Olympics and an ice hockey tournament.

For excursions
The Biosphere Reserve Südost-Rügen with the “Black Lake” is worthwhile for activities in the area. At the edge of the lake there is intermediate moor and high bog formation and a so-called swinging ceiling begins to grow over it. This vegetation consisting of mosses and other plants adapts to the bog below and ""swings"" with the movements. The lake is accessible from a hiking trail that leads from Binz to Sellin and a small wooden footbridge leads out to the lake. The leisure pool ""Inselparadies"" in the Sellin Seepark offers bathing fun for small and large guests. The total water area is 600 m². A flow channel, massage jets, and the 100 m long ""Black-Hile water slide"" with light and sound effects provide enough variety. For excursions that lead to further distant places, a ride on the narrow -gauge railway ""Rasender Roland"" is the ideal movement.

For health -conscious
Framed by the Baltic Sea and the Selliner See, Sellin has an oxygen -rich climate. The Granitz forest belt supports the cleaning of the air. The therapies and applications in Sellin range from massages to packs with Rügener healing chalk or healing mud to physiotherapy and Kneipp cures.
