Umag
Umag is the northernmost seaside resort on the west coast of Istria, 40 kilometers south of Trieste it forms the first major attraction of Croatia. Idyllic, lying around a horseshoe -shaped bay, Umag offers a historic city center.
Stroll on the bank ...
The far back history of this area has left clear traces in the face of this landscape. The promenade (Nova Obala) is located directly in front of the old town, from where you can also conveniently follow the Sol Polnesia tourist area. The center is very clear and lies around the TRG Slobode (freedom place). The special features of Umag include larger and smaller sights, such as parts of the city wall with towers, Renaissance and baroque buildings as well as the parish church of Maria Himmelfahrt St. Pellegrinus from 1757 and the associated bell tower. Via the very beautiful Hauptgasse Ulica Garibaldi you get past cafes to the Rochuskapelle from 1514. The city of Umag invites you to linger and relax with its likeable stone roads, filled with grocery stores, souvenir shops, ice cream parlors and cafes.
Hiking in the hinterland ...
The best proof of the continuous development of Umag is the world -famous ATP tennis tournament “Croatian Open”, which is held here every year. From a tourist point of view, the hinterland of Umag is still unknown to many Istria fans. It is worth exploring the region between the two rivers Dragonja and Mirna. Here are the most different opportunities for leisure activities, be it hiking, mountaineering or cycling. Or visit one of the local riding stations and roam the area by horse!
