The Maremma coast has been protected as a Natural Della Maremma nature park since 1975. Visitors can find the typical manifestations of the Maremma on over 100 square kilometers. Large pine forests in the catchment area of the Ombrone River give way to the typical swamps with flat inland lakes and small dunes. In the towering hills of the Monti dell'uccellina, pine and oaths dominate the landscape. The many scenic highlights can best be enjoyed on one of the many marked hiking trails.

Uccellina-Naturpark
This Maremma Nature Park is one of the first Tuscan nature parks. It is about 9000 hectares in size and extends between Principina a Mare, Talamone and the Uccellina Mountains. Following signposted hiking trails, you can watch free-living horses or Maremma cattle in the Ombrone-Delta, at Principina Mare the versatile flora and fauna of the maremma's swamp landscape or explore the untouched nature of the Macchia Mediterranea in the Uccellina Mountains. However, only guided visits are possible from June to the end of September.
